- Do I have to wear hunters orange on your bird hunts?
Yes, hunters orange is required. Safety is very important here at Clover Creek Hunting Farms. We want everyone to have a memorable experience as safely as possible.
- Do I need to have a Kentucky Hunting License?
Yes, the state does require that you have a hunting license.
- Can I bring my own dog?
Yes, you can bring your own dog, however, we do have our own dogs available for those who do not have their own.
- How many people can I hunt with or bring with me in my party?
Ideally, 4 people is a good safe number of hunters in one party. However, we have plenty of areas available and can guide different parties at the same time in different fields. We have even had corporate hunts and birthday parties with a large number of hunters. We just split the hunters up into different parties. Everyone would be hunting at the same time, just with different guides in different fields. We try to keep it as enjoyable and safe as possible.
- What types of upland bird hunts do you have available?
We offer "Field Hunts" for Ringneck Pheasant, Bobwhite Quail, and Chukar Partridge. We also offer European Style Pheasant shoots that are RSVP or your own private shoot. The European shoots are great for young kids, parties, and Corporate Shoots.
- What choke should I use on a "Field Hunt" and what type of choke should I use on at a European Shoot?
As far as the choke you should use for the "Field Hunt", I suggest a full or modified for Pheasant and a modified or improved for Chukar and Quail. The suggested choke you should use for a European shoot is a full or even extra full. I also suggest a 12 gauge with Hi-powered or Heavy field load shells. We have even had people use 3 and 3 1/2 inch magnums on the European shoots.
- How many shells do I need to bring for a European shoot?
The average number of boxes that our hunters will shoot during a European Style Pheasant shoot is 5 to 6 boxes. Remember, this is an average. Some shoot more that this and some may soot less. Our saying is this, " Better to have to many and not need them to have to few and need them".
- What size shot should I use?
This is a good question. It's really an argumentative question. It really depends on the gun, the gauge, what the person shooting the firearm is comfortable with, what type of hunt you are doing, and what type of bird that you are after. However, here is my opinion on this subject. Pheasant= 5's or 6's, Chukar and Quail= 6's and up.
- When can I hunt?
Our bird season is usually from October to March ( depending on temperature). We are a full time operation and you can book a hunt any day of the week. Morning hunts are usually from 8:00am to Noon. Afternoon hunts are usually from Noon to 4:00pm.
- Are you open on Holidays?
Yes, we are open on Holidays. We realize that this time is when most families are together and when friends or businesses are all off at the same time. Therefore, we do offer hunts on the Holidays.
- What types of hunting dogs do you have available to hunt with?
We have Labs(pointing and flushing), English Pointers, English Setters, and German Shorthairs.
